Barefoot Lives

The Beeman

June 18, 2008 · No Comments

I love story books with a recipe included and I think the world could do with far more of them! But that’s a by the by because I’ve just been cooking from a story book that does have a recipe at the end, the lovely Beeman book by Laurie Krebs and illustrated by Valeria Cis.

A story about a young boy’s grandpa who keeps bees. The story describes how he looks after them and in the winter, long after all the honey has been collected, the boy’s grandma makes some apple and honey muffins from the honey jarred by grandpa.

The recipe for the muffins is at the end of the book and it is delicious and actually quite healthy (with branflakes etc), well it’s not very unhealthy anyway! And it’s a really easy recipe to cook with children, although I should add that I think I must have been using bigger muffin tins than the author, as it stated the recipe was for 18 muffins, whereas I managed to fill only 9 cases.
